Comar 5P.i ECO+ offers additional thermal performance to the Comar ECO product range: by extending the polyamide strips and inserting thermal foam, this product range will provide a future-proof solution for casement windows meeting U-values up to 2016.

With more and more onus on the environment, window and door systems must be sustainable. Using aluminium the Comar 5P.i ECO+ system is 100% recyclable. Aluminium can be recycled an infinite number of times with no loss to its capability. Comar operates an Environmental Management System certified to ISO 140001.

Due to its slim profiles, the Comar 5P.i ECO+ range weighs less than 0.79Kg per linear metre and therefore achieves a Green Guide A+ rating, which can help specifiers achieve the highest BREEAM levels.

Curved Aluminium Curtain Walling Facade for Offices

Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems; with their approved fabricator Formes Alutek Ltd recently completed a new build office building which forms part of ‘The West of Duddon Sands Offshore Windfarm’, a JV project between Scottish Power Renewables and Dong Energy. The project comprises of an onshore substation, 108 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 389 megawatts and brand new bespoke Operations & Management office facilities based at West of Duddon Sands, Barrow-in-Furness.

A striking curved facade was installed and Comar 6EFT 4sided SG with concealed vents was selected as it provides a structurally glazed curtain walling solution with EPDM or Silicon seals which creates facets at 7.5° increments convex or concave. Comar EFT 4 sided offers architects the opportunity to maximise large glazed areas as it has the slimmest glazing seals available on the market.

Comar West of Duddon Sands Onshore Offices

In a busy office environment, Comar 7 door sets are a natural choice. Not only are they available in swing, pivot, sliding, auto-sliding and sliding/folding, they have been designed specifically for retail applications where high traffic solutions are required. For safety, the Comar 7 swing doors were fitted with anti-finger trap stiles and Axim concealed transom closers which were hung directly from the Comar 6EFT curtain wall again enforcing the reduced the sight lines.

The project was completed using Comar 5P.i top hung windows. The Comar 5P.i window system uses trademarked Polyamide Insulated (P.i) that provides exceptional thermal performance in a market where energy efficient designs and meeting the demands of the latest building regulations are paramount. All configurations, such as casement, top swing reversible, pivot, tilt and turn and sliding can be manufactured.

Solar shading was a key consideration on the southern elevations of this project; therefore to shade the façade vertically hung Comar Duco-sun C was specified. The blades, rafters and struts are all part of the unique Ducosun multi-fit system which allows fast track installation with its “clicks & glide” assembly.

Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems are delighted to have become a Secure By Design Licence holder for their Comar 5P.i ,Comar  9P.i and Comar 7 range of windows and doors.

Comar are delighted to be part of this initiative to design out crime in buildings. Established in 1989, ‘Secured by Design’ (SBD) is a police initiative to encourage the building industry to design out crime, assisting in reducing the opportunity for crime and the fear of crime. SBD focuses on the design and security for new & refurbished homes, schools and commercial projects and aims to bring together the principles of designing out crime, effective crime prevention and security standards for a range of applications and products.  ‘Secured by Design’ is endorsed by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), and has the backing of the Home Office Crime Reduction Unit.

Due to enhanced security options on their window and door systems, Comar offers the latest crime prevention features such as anti-snap and anti-bump locking systems.  On points of attack stainless steel plates and protectors ensure that with prolonged abuse/attack entry is not attained.

Comar systems are certified and kite marked to the very latest security standards, and operate through a nationwide network of Approved Fabricators.

Comar 9Pi, High Performance Framing Windows & Doors is our premium system offering low U-values, integration and functionality.

Our commitment is to continually develop this system and provide solutions to meet design demands and building regulations, both now and in the future.   As a result of  market feedback we have now added another range of Ladder Frame profiles to cater for refurbishment projects.  Comar 9Pi Ladder Frame is now available in 100mm, this increases Comar 9Pi’s functionality from our standard 78mm and our high span 120mm options.

The Comar 9Pi Ladder Frame option offers fast-track off-site construction for window walling, thermally broken shop-fronts and fully integrates with the new Comar 7Pi CD swing and auto-sliding doors and Comar 9Pi rebated door-sets.  Dependent on wind-loading Comar 9Pi has been designed to perform, High Ix profiles cater for centres up to 1500mm x 3000mm.

New Product Launch – Comar 7P.i Folding Sliding Door

 

Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems are delighted to launch their thermally broken Comar 7P.i Folding Sliding Door (FSD). 

Smooth operation and solutions to meet the design brief, the aluminium Comar 7P.i Folding/Sliding Door (FSD) system offers a myriad of possibilities for commercial or residential projects. Comar 7P.i FSD provides a versatile moveable wall that allows space and light into any project. Even in the winter months the glazed facade offers light as well as keeping the building insulated through the trade-marked Comar 7P.i thermal break technology.

By merging aesthetically pleasing features such as robust, yet slim, aluminium profiles with feature-laden operational gearing from the Comar 7P.i FSD system, you have the capability to design open-in or open-out stacking doors, folding and sliding from the top or the bottom rollers. Open-in stacking doors are advisable when the doors must operate within the building plane; open-out stacking doors can be used so the doors do not interfere with interior furnishings.  If bottom rolling options are required the gear is housed in the floor which offers uninterrupted traffic flow compliant with the very latest disability and equalities act legislation. Top-hung operating gear would be selected for larger sized doors. For additional safety the doors when folding offer a finger protection solution.

To cater for different apertures the Comar 7P.i FSD offers from 2 to 8 sliding doors in either direction with an optional rebated door for day to day ease of entry. Each leaf can be up to 1100mm wide, creating market leading potential spans with minimum sight-lines. Door heights can be up to 2400mm, but depending on wind loading larger sizes can be created; this is especially useful for floor to ceiling glazing or to create an entrance of distinction.  Glazing sizes of up to 62mm are catered for, which means that triple glazed or acoustic glasses can be specified as well as panels or standard double glazed units.

Due to the trade-marked P.i thermal efficiency U-values are well below the required Building Regulations targets. The doors and jamb are both adjustable to enable long-term smooth operation and to adapt to different building tolerances.

Comar Window Systems Improve Performance

With ever-increasing demands on the performance of glazing and opening vents, Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems have developed and rigorously tested their aluminium window systems to meet the very latest performance and specification demands, ensuring their clients have a future proof solution.

The Comar range of solutions, Comar 5P.i and Comar 9P.i High Performance window systems, offers specifiers a comprehensive single source solution that achieves an increased range of window sizes.  To achieve this Comar Systems have two profile ranges available: standard and heavy duty, Comar 9P.i has a top projected casement window system with slim 84mm profiles that offers maximum heights of 2500mm. Comar 9P.i Tilt and Turn offers side hung, bottom hung or tilt and turn at a maximum height of 2400mm.  Comar 9P.i Parallel Opening offers sizes of up to 3000mm.  Depending on the type of build, these configurations can also offer a solution for maximum air-exchange, smoke ventilation and restricted ventilation with lockable handles for cleaning inside and outside.

Comar 9P.i also offers optimum heightened performance in terms of weather and security.  Comar 9P.i windows achieved market leading results in terms of water tightness at 900Pa; this ensures that even in the most demanding locations Comar 9P.i will maintain its water integrity.  Security concerns are alleviated with the system exceeding the requirements of BS 7950.  Added to this, Comar have recently achieved Kite- mark status for both systems supply and security.

With regard to Document L, Comar 9P.i has been designed to create a future-proof solution.  Comar 9P.i incorporates Comar’s trademarked P.i Polyamide Insulation, creating a thermal break of 34mm.  This high performance P.i can be augmented with thermal foam, offering even lower U-values.  Comar’s Technical Department back this up with project specific U-values and modelling. 

Comar 5Pi ECO offers achieves a Green Guide rating of ‘A’, providing points for BREEAM ratings and an ‘A’ Grade Window Energy Ratings (WER) with a standard double glazed unit.

Integrated solutions are a cornerstone of Comar Systems design.   Comar 9P.i casement, tilt turn and parallel windows are part of a larger system.  The windows can be stand alone, but they also have their own high performance framing system, which offers ladder or mitre frame construction in 80mm or 120mm sections.  This allows the completion of floor to ceiling glazing, designed with a maximum height (depending on wind loading) of up to 3000mm.  Comar 9Pi offers a value engineered solution: by hanging Comar 9Pi opening vent windows directly from the frame, only 2 frames are required; older solutions required an additional outer frame.  In effect, Comar 9Pi reduces the cost of opening vents into framing by a third.

To complete this extensive solution, Comar 9P.i offers two door options: rebated and rebated with anti-finger trap stile.  These door sets are available in single or double, open-in and open-out and have surpassed the requirements of PAS 23 at 600Pa for air and water and PAS 24 enhanced security.  Again, the doors offer a stand-alone option as well as seamless integration into a framed facade.

Working with architects Comar currently have a range of profiles in development for project specific solutions that will be added into their standard range.  This provides specifiers with the reassurance that Comar will develop new profiles to achieve even their most demanding design briefs, now and in the future.

Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems, with their approved fabricator K2 Aluminium Systems, recently completed the £12M showcase Harborne Pool & Leisure Centre in Birmingham which has achieved a BREEAM rating of “excellent”. To achieve this, the building included features such as resourcing sustainable materials, green roofs, water saving measures, solar energy and natural daylight spaces.  This state of the art facility is unique in Birmingham as it is the first facility to be operated by a leisure management company on behalf of Birmingham City Council.  The new centre includes a 25M, 6 lane, swimming pool, learner pool, community room, group and adult fitness studio and interactive children’s gym.

Comar 6 curtain walling is a versatile thermally efficient system designed to integrate panels and glass of different widths into the façade with special profiles to include opening vents and doors.  The design of Comar 6 makes it ideal for complex facetted curtain walls as well as sheer glazed facades. Comar 6 was selected due to its slim 50mm profiles which maximised the glazed area for natural day lighting. Comar 5P.i windows and Comar 7P.i doors were selected. Polyamide Insulated (P.i) window and door systems provide exceptional thermal performance in a market where energy efficient designs and meeting the demands of the latest building regulations are paramount. 

In a busy leisure environment, Comar 7 commercial door sets are a natural choice.  Not only are they available in swing, pivot, sliding, auto-sliding and sliding folding, they have been designed specifically for applications where high traffic solutions are required.  For safety, Comar 7 doors were fitted with rounded Anti-finger trap stiles, Axim soft touch Panic Exit Devices and Axim Concealed Transom Closers which were hung directly from Comar 6 and complied with the Disability & Equality Act 2010.  All aluminium systems were finished in an 80micron chlorine resistant polyester powder coat.

All Comar approved fabricators are required to have the technical expertise to attend pre-site meetings and provide detailing.  K2 Aluminium Systems liaised closely with the specifiers to provide design advice and detailing which ensured the project ran smoothly and met site deadlines.
